"Helios" by Michael VelliquetteThe Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art presentsMichael Velliquette: Power Seeker on display through February 24 in the University Gallery at Georgia Southern University’s Center for Art & Theatre.

Power Seeker is a survey of cut-paper sculptures by Velliquette, who works exclusively with hand-cut heavyweight paper card stock to construct visually and structurally complex forms that reference masks and other forms of ritually driven object making.

“We are very excited to introduce Georgia Southern and Statesboro residents to the work of internationally renowned artist, Michael Velliquette,” said Marc Mitchell, gallery director for the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art. “The exhibition examines how a seemingly familiar and fragile material can be transformed into powerful spectacles of the handmade. Kids will love the bright colors and wild imagery, while adults will be fascinated by the intricate details and craftsmanship that is evident in each sculpture.”
