School is almost over… how will your kids spend their summer?
Now in its 6th year, Summer Studios is an all day intensive visual art experience for K-12 artists. Creative experiences in an array of art media, from drawing, painting, papermaking, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture are enriched with art appreciation and art history activities during Summer Studios sessions.
Summer Studios 2010 is a collaborative effort between the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art at Georgia Southern University and Averitt Center for the Arts. All studio activities will take place in the Visual Arts Studios at Georgia Southern, with weekly field trips to the Averitt Center for the Arts, downtown Statesboro. Students will be ready for pick up at the Center for Art & Theatre, Georgia Southern campus at the end of each day. Each weekly session culminates in an exhibition of student work at the Center for Art & Theatre.
Summer Studios tuition is $150 per week

Summer Studios 2010 Session Information
Session 1: June 21 – 25
Design Days!: Elements of Art & Principles of (Graphic) Design
From the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to the work of the Graphic Designer and Illustrator, during Summer Studios Design Days, students will explore what makes a great composition and what makes a powerful graphic using Logos, Story Book Illustrations, Pop-Up Books, Package Designs and more using traditional studio media, digital photography, and the computer.
Session 2: June 28 – July 2
Museum Masterpieces: Virtual Visits to Major Museums
Learn about why museums collect and display certain works of art through virtual tours of major collections that lead to studio activities featuring the materials and methods used by visual artists to create the world’s wonders of art. From Asia to Africa to the Americas, students will learn a world of art as they create their own portfolio of masterpieces!
Session 3: July 5 – July 9
Georgia Crafts & Folk Art: Folk Art and Found Object
Summer Studios Craft Artists will be inspired by the amazing creativity found in our very own art collections at the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art: the Georgia Artists Collection and the Smith Callaway Banks Southern Folk Art Collection! Students will produce their own artworks using the same methods and materials as artisans and folk artists. Treasures by Georgia Artists, about Georgia are right here to inspire all.
