The Bachelor of General Studies program offers a solid core curriculum program along with the freedom to choose from a wide range of concentrations. While the degree allows for study in several areas, it is organized to provide an academically sound program with carefully planned concentrations. The student who earns this degree will have achieved a broad-based education that meets high standards of learning.

BACHELOR OF GENERAL STUDIES DEGREE (BGS)

Requirements
Areas A-E and University Requirements

48 hours
The degree requires fulfillment of the core curriculum (Areas A-E) including the university requirements for health and kinesiology.

Area F
18 hours (1000 or 2000 level courses)
Humanities and Fine Arts
Social Science
Science, Mathematics, and Technology
Any course approved by advisor

Major Requirements
51-54 hours
For the major, students may choose one of the following three options:

  1. Three (3) concentrations of 18 hours each from the list of approved concentrations.
  2. Two (2) concentrations of 18 hours each from the list of approved concentrations and one (1) Individual Emphasis of 18 hours.
  3. Two (2) concentrations of 18 hours each from the list of approved concentrations and one (1) 15-hour minor from the list of approved minors.

Of the total number of hours for the major, 42 of the hours must be at the upper division level (3000 level or above). Students must have a 2.0 total institution GPA overall and a GPA of 2.0 in each concentration or minor.

General Electives
The remaining hours to meet the required 126 total hours will be electives approved by the advisor.
