AATF TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD: DEADLINE Jan. 30, 2009

GEORGIA CHAPTER

GENERAL INFORMATION

CRITERIA FOR THE GA AATF TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

  1. Member in good standing for at least five (5) years of national AATF, and at least three (3) years of GA AATF.
  2. Full-time teacher of French in an accredited public or non-public Georgia institution (elementary, middle or secondary school; college or university) with a minimum of three (3) years full-time experience in Georgia, prior to the year of nomination.
  3. Nominated by a chapter member.  Self-nominations are accepted.

 

QUALITIES SUGGESTED FOR GA AATF TEACHER OF THE YEAR:

  1. Teacher demonstrates sound approaches to curriculum design, instructional practices, and methods of assessment.
  2. He/she demonstrates concern for students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
  3. He/she shows evidence of continuing professional growth in at least one of the following ways:
    1. Study and/or travel in countries where French is spoken.
    2. Attendance at professional meetings, workshops, retreats, or institutes offering sessions with French/francophone language, literature, or culture focus.
    3. Presentation/s at professional meetings, workshops, retreats, or institutes on a French/francophone-related topic.
  4. He/she shows evidence of active contribution to foreign language education beyond the classroom, such as promotion of foreign language programs, fostering articulation between levels, expansion of French offerings, research and publication, etc.
  5. He/she is a member in good standing of additional professional organizations at either the state or national level.

 

NOMINATION PROCEDURES:

 

Any Georgia AATF member may submit nominations.  Self-nominations are also accepted.  The nomination packet should be compiled by the nominee and should include the following items:

 

  1. Three letters of recommendation from supervisors and/or colleagues.  A maximum of two student recommendations may also be included.  Make copies of the Letter of Recommendation form provided on the website to give to those writing letters of recommendation.
  2. Professional résumé including educational background and earned degrees, memberships, leadership capacities, professional growth and involvement, awards and honors.
  3. Nominee’s statement of teaching philosophy. (maximum length one page)

 

The nomination packet (originals and 3 additional copies) should be mailed to:

and postmarked no later than  January 30, 2009.  Nominations will be evaluated by the Selection Committee and nominees will be notified of the committee’s decision prior to the spring meeting of the GA AATF, with the Teacher(s) of the Year being announced at the annual FLAG meeting.
