Dr. Rebecca Martin Nagy

BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. Nagy, Director of the Harn Museum in Gainesville, Florida, graduated from Georgia Southern College with her BA in 1975 and her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1983. She has had an interesting and varied career, serving as an instructor in the Department of Art History and Education for the Cleveland Museum of Art; an adjunct faculty member, University of North Carolina; and Curator of African Art, North Carolina Museum of Art. During the course of her career, Dr. Nagy has had many honors and accomplishments. She was a National Merit Scholar and a Danforth Fellow. She was a Fellow at the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg through the International Partnership among Museums Program and received a Fulbright for study in Germany and Ghana, West Africa. Besides publishing several articles and exhibition catalogues, she was the principal Editor for Sepphoris in Galilee: Crosscurrents of Culture (1996) and contributing author for the North Carolina Museum of Art Handbook of the Collections (1998). She presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Arts Council of the African Studies Association.
