Michael A. Pemberton is Associate Professor of Writing and Linguistics at Georgia Southern University and director of the University Writing Center.  He has published five books, The Ethics of Writing Instruction: Issues in Theory and Practice (Ablex 1999, volume 4 in the series Perspectives on Writing: Theory, Research, Practice), Bookmarks: A Guide to Research and Writing, 2nd Ed. (Longman 2002, with John Ruszkiewicz and Janice Walker), The Center Will Hold: Critical Reflections on Writing Center Scholarship (Utah State University Press, 2003, with Joyce Kinkead), Bookmarks: A Guide to Research and Writing, 3rd Ed, and Shifting the Center of Africanism: Language, Economic Regionalism, and Globalization  A past president of the International Writing Centers Association, he has also published more than 50 articles on writing center ethics, theory, and practice in the Writing Lab Newsletter, the Writing Center Journal, and Research and Teaching in Developmental Education, and his pieces on cognitive modeling and writing technologies have appeared in journals such as College Composition and Communication, Computers and Composition, and various book chapters.  He serves on the editorial and governing boards of the WAC Clearinghouse, the Writing Center Journal, Computers and Composition, Academic Writing, IWCA Press, WPA: Writing Program Administration, the Journal of Writing and Pedagogy and the Writing Center Research Project, and he is the current editor of the journal Across the Disciplines.
